India's aspiring chess players and their parents woke up Friday with big dreams after 18-year-old hometown hero Gukesh Dommaraju became the youngest world champion.

Indian chess prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju has become the youngest world chess champion ever after defeating defending champion Ding Liren of China. Gukesh’s win on Thursday came in the last game of the 14-game World Chess Championship in Singapore.

The Indian teen prodigy has long been considered a rising star in the chess world after he became a chess grandmaster at 12.
