Taiwan President Lai Ching-te on Thursday called on like-minded governments to "safeguard democracy" during a visit to US territory Guam, his second stop on American soil in a Pacific tour that has angered Beijing.

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan President Lai Ching-te called on Thursday for fellow democracies to unite against authoritarianism to safeguard peace in the region, speaking while on a visit to the U.S. territory of Guam which is home to a major military base.

Taiwan’s leader is visiting Guam in his second stop in U.S. territory on an ongoing overseas trip. President Lai Ching-te arrived Wednesday night from the Pacific Island country of Tuvalu.
