Stimulus update: One state is proposing $500 ‘inflation refund’ check
While the idea of an inflation rebate is new, stimulus-type payments are not. The federal government sent out three rounds of stimulus checks – up to $1,200, $600 and $1,400, respectively - during the COVID pandemic. Then, in late 2023, Alabama distributed one-time rebates of up to $300 funded through a surplus in the Education Trust Fund.
